Cropped Bully Oath Poster

In school there are all of these signs and many times when you hear about bullying and the teachers think that they help. When in truth they are just another sign on the wall that no one looks at. Freshman Class Fundraisers

Author: Brooke November 17, 2011 Student Life No Comments

Today the freshman class met in the auditorium this morning to discuss the freshman fundraisers. The student council has come up with many great plans. The first one is on December 17th at Apple Bee’s for Breakfast with Santa Claus. The freshman class has also brought together many volunteers from the class to help out that day at the Breakfast.

Mackenzie Korf, A freshman class representative said, “The breakfast is an annual event for the freshman’s and has been a great succees in the past and would love to see everyone come out to support us.”The next idea was from Bridger Menlove, he thought that it would be a good idea to have a junk car to smash with a hammer. Lastly it was Kylie Webb that brought on the real hit that was Battle of the Bands. Many people signed up to volunteer and participate at all the breakfast this year. All these proceedings that the freshman gets will go toward their senior trip and to prom along with many other things for the freshman.

Vastly Changing

What type of mind set do high school students have entering high school? Well, everyone knows those freshmen are quiet, shy, and sometimes intimidated. The seniors can be tall, loud, and slightly obnoxious. As their years progress, the teens become more comfortable and begin to find their roles in high school. What group do they hang out with? Why do they wear what they chose? Even the smallest details matter. Instead of worrying about a very important education, the teens are focused on what to wear or how to fix their hair.

Gloving

What is dubstep? It is a type of electronic music that students normally hear at raves…or is it? Well yes, it is electronic music but it’s no longer just a rave thing. Now it is a high school dance theme. Successful? Why yes it was! Back to Bass was a smashing hit for University High School. But will there be more? According to Johnny Low ( a junior from University Schools and one of the Dj’s)“Definitely yes, hopefully about at least four more dances this year with great out comes.” How do the teachers feel about bringing dubstep into a safe school environment for school dances instead of at clubs were they usually hear them? “I think it is a great result, a lot of kids like dubstep and it’s good that students conduct it,” explains Ms. Lissak (art teacher at University Schools).

Now, before anyone even starts to look for a job, they must consider this.  Jobs aren’t easy to get, especially in the current economic mess that America is left in.  The unemployment rate in America is up to 9.2%, which is almost double the 4.8% it was five years ago.  Unemployment is even high in Weld County, currently standing at 10.6%.  These rates are also for adults too, so it will be much tougher as a part-time teenager.  Not getting a job shouldn’t get any teen down. … Continue Reading

Only Revolutions Book Review

Inside of the book

When one approaches any novel by Danielewski, they usually expect innovative typography mixed with the author’s surprising prose. This was shown in his first book, House of Leaves, where he manipulated the text on the page to express ideas, thoughts, metaphors, and plot. Yet as one picks up Only Revolutions, the typography offers less of an art form and more of a daunting task the reader must traverse. This mixed with Danielewski playing with prose …

Matched Book Review

Matched Trilogy coming out on top of The Hunger Games?

Matched by Ally Condie is very similar to the Hunger Games. Although it has the ‘love triangle’ and similar problems with the government as The Hunger Games it isn’t exactly the same. It does have it’s own plot, it was actually just as, if not more so, interesting then the Hunger Games.
