On Sunday, the Broncos finished the Steelers game with a surprising victory, much to the delight of the fans. “When the game started, I was certainly worried it was going to be a letdown. The last few games weren’t their best,” said sophomore Jaylin Chacon. But the Broncos won 29 to 23, finishing in overtime with an 80-yard-pass. “By the end of the second quarter, my thoughts about the outcome had changed dramatically! Towards the end I was extremely excited and nervous, and when they went into overtime I didn’t think I was going to make it,” she added.

Author: Alannah November 18, 2011 Sports No Comments

Girls’ basketball is just around the corner. Every player is bringing their A-game as tryouts have been going on this week. Last year, they made it to state, but unfortunately got kicked off on the first round. Even though that happened, it is not discouraging the players as they are getting ready for the upcoming season. … Continue Reading

University’s cross country team, though always very successful, tends to get overlooked. The team nearly always goes to State, something not seen in our football team and not often seen in our volleyball team. But this year, the team did more than just attend State. They also won second place, giving them an opportunity to run at an invitation in Arizona. … Continue Reading

In sports, as with everything else in life there can be problems. This year the NBA players are in a lockout. The lockout started on July 1st, the main reason behind the lockout is the players refusing to take lower salaries.

The lockout is due to failure of compromise between players and the owners. Owners wishing to cut back on salaries and a 50-50 split of revenue, the players wish to keep their higher salaries and 57% of the revenue. The amount of money, in revenue, salaries and benefits totals to approximately $4.3 billion. … Continue Reading

Summer has ended once again and school is back; sitting in dreaded classrooms with lectures, learning, blah, blah, blah. Along with school being back, so are season sports! Many kids say sports are a huge plus when it comes to school. University has a fairly decent sports program, but volleyball blew through the roof last year; second place state champs!! Everyone can only hope it will be as good as last year. A lot of senior varsity players graduated last year and left the volleyball team. These seniors include: Lindy Matthews, Caryson Garcia, Ashli Maira, Chelsea Smith, Leanne Ebens, and Sara Tappy. This leaves only two seniors for the 2011 volleyball season.

A number group of students choose to play for Frontier; it is close and very convenient. “I wouldn’t play for a University team; this is my team,” comments Sophomore Taitian Bowie.  … Continue Reading

Jermey on a Goal

High school has long lived around sports. If someone were a star athlete then they had it made. In today’s society it’s more balanced between sports and education. Imagine balancing those two things but then adding something extra. Jeremy Hewitt a senior at University High School, is taking on a very hard task. He is currently juggling classes and two (that’s right, two) sports. He is a varsity defender at Northridge High School for their soccer team, and the varsity kicker for the University Bulldogs football team. People are usually adverse to change but not in his case.

The athletes that will never be

The athlete's that will never be

Tiger Woods, Paul Stastny, Landon Donovan, Floyd Mayweather Jr.; all of these world class athletes came from hard work and determination in each of their sports, respectively.  And because of that, it means that they never would have gone to University Schools.

Why won’t they go to UH?  The next greatest hockey player or the up-and-rising lacrosse superstar will never come here because we don’t offer their sports.  There are a total of nine CHSAA sports that University doesn’t offer, as well as several other sports that aren’t sponsored by CHSAA, like rugby.  “I wish University would offer more sports.” said freshman Spencer Bradley. … Continue Reading

Man found dead in movie theater bathroom

People die all the time, people also go missing all the time. For society, it seems normal. The body of George DeGrazio, 66 was found in a locked family restroom at the Cinemark in Fort Collins. DeGrazio had died of a heart attack. It would be a normal scenario, however the body wasn’t discovered until 5 days later due to the body’s rotting smell.

Only Revolutions Book Review

Inside of the book

When one approaches any novel by Danielewski, they usually expect innovative typography mixed with the author’s surprising prose. This was shown in his first book, House of Leaves, where he manipulated the text on the page to express ideas, thoughts, metaphors, and plot. Yet as one picks up Only Revolutions, the typography offers less of an art form and more of a daunting task the reader must traverse. This mixed with Danielewski playing with prose …

feat.

High school boys are mischievous people and don’t usually think before they act. An effect of this is the mysterious hole in the upstairs high school boy’s bathroom. This bathroom is filled with many secrets. Boys you will understand. Girls, you will never know. Apparently to a boy, peeing gets very boring.

Matched Book Review

Matched Trilogy coming out on top of The Hunger Games?

Matched by Ally Condie is very similar to the Hunger Games. Although it has the ‘love triangle’ and similar problems with the government as The Hunger Games it isn’t exactly the same. It does have it’s own plot, it was actually just as, if not more so, interesting then the Hunger Games.
