Aims College Center

When certain classes are not offered at the school, students can decide whether or not they want to take them at UNC or Aims. Even if they just want to get started on their college credits, they can take college classes. It is also possible that the classes the students are interested in taking were cut from the school’s curriculum. The French program is one example. Many students that had participated in it last year and years before have decided to take a French class at UNC.

New lunches

Most students who eat school lunch have noticed the significant changes in the University’s cafeteria this year. The different food, the reduced fat milk, and the salad bar, are obviously very different from last year’s chicken nuggets and packaged burritos.

“I’ve noticed a big difference from last year and this year,” said Brianna Samaron, a sophomore, who frequently eats school lunch, and normally ate school lunch last year. She added, “The new food tastes better, and it makes you feel fuller.”

In the last 30 years, childhood obesity in America has tripled. From 12 to 19 year olds,

There are the texting teenage drivers who occasionally run into objects both parked and moving. Then there is the limited amount of space to park cars. However student Connor Neville, a senior at University Schools didn’t have to worry about that for the first few weeks of school. He had his own front row parking space reserved.

An example of how people change on when on a diet.

Commercials, team coaches, and friends all discuss diets. In a way it is normal to want to make students make themselves look better; the only problem is that if a diet allows more than two pounds of weight loss a week it is extremely unhealthy for the body. One of the best known diets is the

The Ice Cream Wagon lures in UH students

There’s no fancy bell that rings at 3:10, never the less, students flood the hallways and stream out the doors. As students flee quickly from the school, they stop and pause. They hear a sound that takes them back to their childhood, a jingle that pulls their eyes to a white truck.

School in June

Author: Emily May 19, 2011 Featured, News No Comments

Each year no matter what the class is, from math to English to AP sleeping, one or more students always manage to finish with an “F”. Because failed classes obviously cannot count for anything, students that fail are required to make up the credits to graduate. According to teacher Justin Boyd, who is running the summer school program this year, a total of 80 students have failed: 31 freshman, 37 sophomores, and 12 juniors.

“Each year a significant number of students fail, and it is becoming a problem”, says Donna Gonzales, the high school counselor. When students fail, it affects the school more than they think. It costs money for the students to retake them a class, it makes class sizes bigger, and it affects the school’s reputation negatively. … Continue Reading

Zero tolerence

Colorado is closer to eliminating strict zero-tolerance discipline policies in school systems. The policies were adopted after the Columbine High school shooting. No tolerance policies were made to reduce firearms and weapons, as well as alcohol, drugs and other substances to school. Under these policies when they are enforced, students are punished even for minor infringement of rules and codes.

In The Poisonwood Bible, Barbara Kingsolver tells the story of an evangelical Baptist minister and his family, the Prices, on their experience in the Congo on a mission trip in the late 1950s. Nathan Price is devoted to saving the “heathens” of the village, Kilanga, by converting and baptizing them in the crocodile infested river (an idea which they are not fond of). The story is narrated by his wife, Orleanna, and their four daughters …
