At 817 8th Avenue lies Greeley’s own Kress Theater. The Kress is a movie theater/ restaurant/ lounge that is open six days a week. Although it is little known to the majority of our students, it offers a wide range of events that almost guarantee a good night for anyone.

For just six dollars a student you get admission to the movie. The Kress has the honor of showing local and national independent films. It also throws in some popular showings for free such as Anchorman or the showing of The Oscars. A list of the free movie nights is available on their website or on their Facebook page. The Kress has always made sure to keep up with the community by changing the showings often and by bringing a great variety of genres to the big screen.

Boys Play Photo 300

Movies portray the stereotypical high school setting in cliques- there are the jocks, nerds, theatre kids, geeks, preps, plastics,- but in the movie High School Musical, these stereotypes were broken. In fact, our school is having it’s own little High School Musical: Seniors Jake Winn, Justin Witt, Christian Dick, and sophomore Garrett Coles from the basketball team and senior Levi Goode from the track team decided a few weeks ago to participate in the spring musical, Curtains. … Continue Reading

Star Wars: Episode 1: My Love Affair

Jordan rockin' her Vader shirt

A short time ago, in a galaxy far far away… I became a Star Wars fan. People would always talk about different characters in Star Wars; I would just laugh and nod, and act as if I understood. All I knew about Star Wars was there was a guy named Darth Vader, and he said (with sound effects of someone breathing into a scuba mask) “Luke, I am your father.” Winter break of this year, there was a Star Wars marathon on TV. I decided I would watch the sixth episode just to say I saw a movie. I never thought I would really enjoy it.

King Tut Brief resized 300X200
The mystery surrounding King Tut lives up to its expectations. The Tutankhamun: The Golden King and the Great Pharaohs exhibit at the Denver Art Museum is extremely entrancing.
The exhibition begins with a short film on how the tomb of Tutankhamun was discovered; at the end of the film, two towering doors automatically open, bidding people to pass through. Configured to represent Tutankhamun’s tomb, there are five rooms: the corridor, antechamber, annex, the treasury, and the burial chamber. … Continue Reading

The Block Party

300x200_2

It’s been four years now, since the beginning of the Block Party, and it never seems to get old to the town of Greeley, Colorado. It’s a young tradition, but no less, a tradition. Streets are filled with college students, teenagers, and even some old enough to be your mother, or your mother’s mother for that matter. “Everyone and their grandma is here,” comments Brady Fisher as he stands by DP Dough trying not to get hit by the swarms of people.  It’s now the talk of high school, the beginning of the year means going to the Block Party. It’s publicity: word of mouth. Even though the posters you see all over downtown are there, people show up because their best friend’s brother’s sister’s cousin told them about it.

Jersey Shore is fist pumping its way to the top

Author: Jordan September 9, 2010 A&E, Featured 1 Comment
jersey shore edited

GTL? It stands for gym, tanning, laundry.  This is a life style many Guido’s tend to follow. What is a Guido? It is a male Italian, who tans, and who basically looks good. Jersey Shore has become a huge hit to people of many age groups because of the lingo and the daily lifestyles shown from the cast.

The show began in the fall of 2009 with the cast on the New Jersey Shore.  They started out with eight people in the first season. They included Pauly D, Jenny (Jwoww), Vinny, Angelina, Sam, Ronnie, Nicole (Snooki), and you can’t forget Mike (The Situation). Throughout the season, many crazy events happened such as Sam and Ronnie dating, hooking up with grenades (as the cast calls girls, who they find to be physically unattractive), fights, and Angelina being sent home because no one got along with her. “My favorite season was the first because they were in Jersey and the show is so stupid, it’s hilarious,” said senior Lisa Frances Fraser. … Continue Reading

Change in discipline

Zero tolerence

Colorado is closer to eliminating strict zero-tolerance discipline policies in school systems. The policies were adopted after the Columbine High school shooting. No tolerance policies were made to reduce firearms and weapons, as well as alcohol, drugs and other substances to school. Under these policies when they are enforced, students are punished even for minor infringement of rules and codes.

Book Review: The Poisonood Bible

3 May 2012

200px-Poisonwood_Bible (1)

In The Poisonwood Bible, Barbara Kingsolver tells the story of an evangelical Baptist minister and his family, the Prices, on their experience in the Congo on a mission trip in the late 1950s. Nathan Price is devoted to saving the “heathens” of the village, Kilanga, by converting and baptizing them in the crocodile infested river (an idea which they are not fond of). The story is narrated by his wife, Orleanna, and their four daughters …

The Bell Jar Review

3 May 2012

The Bell Jar, by Sylvia Plath, is a semiautobiographical of Plath’s life, with people and place’s names changed. The story has a dark undertone throughout the novel and can be disheartening at times, but has comedic breaks scattered throughout the story.

  • "When she says we need to talk, I focus all my attention on her and don't punch myself in the balls."
